South Africa arrests 87 before planned anti-government protest

South African security forces say 87 people had been arrested in the last 12 hours across the country over public violence before planned protests by the left-wing Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party. Ruto, Raila take their battles to the international community

The Government now wants international and diplomatic missions to censure Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga over claims of orchestrating violence during opposition protests and planning to overthrow a legitimate administration. In a letter by the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, the government faulted Mr Odinga for calling for nationwide protests with a view to storming the State House to oust President Ruto. DCI Launches Manhunt for Rowdy Protestors Captured on Camera

On Friday, March 24, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations announced that investigations were underway to arrest individuals captured on camera vandalising public property during the Monday, March 20 protests. In a statement, the DCI ordered all individuals captured in the photos and footage shared from the demos to surrender themselves at the unit’s headquarters before the close of business (5 pm) on Friday, March 24. How two boys starved to death on pastor’s word

Two boys starved to death in Kilifi County after a pastor allegedly instructed their parents to lock them in a room to fast, supposedly saving them from an “imminent painful death of children in the world.” Malindi sub-County police boss John Kemboi, who confirmed the deaths of the two boys, said they rescued a third boy who was severely malnourished after going without food and water for 20 days. Nairobi county has been ranked as having the highest number of police killings in 2022. The latest report by Missing Voices shows that Nairobi recorded 53 cases of police killings with most of them being as a result of anticrime operations that police conducted in various parts of the county. Garissa University Attackers Found Guilty, But Sentences Reduced Significantly 

Justice Cecilia Githua on Friday, March 24, reviewed the jail sentence for two convicts who participated in the 2015 Garissa University terror attack after a successful appeal. The two, Hassan Edin Hassan and Mohammed Abdi Abikar, who had been sentenced to serve 41 years in prison by a lower court for taking part in the heinous act, saw their sentences revised to 26 years. Residents kill lions that preyed on livestock in Taita Taveta

Residents of Rong’e in Taita Taveta County have in the last two weeks speared to death four lions in a worsening case of human-wildlife conflict.
